The Experiences of South Wales Miners in the Tunnelling Companies on the Western Front and their Womenfolk at Home
A talk by Dr Ritchie Wood (Swansea University) paying tribute to the very selectgroup of miners from South Wales, who were engaged in underground warfare against enemy miners.
Dr Ritchie Wood spent over 35 years working abroad as a mechanical engineer in such places as Malaysia (tin mining), South Africa (gold and coal mining), and Libya (steel-making). On retiring in 2002, he pursued an academic interest in the Tunnelling Companies, achieving a Masters degree from Birmingham University, focussing on British miners in the Tunnelling Companies, then a PhD at Swansea University with his thesis entitled 'The South Wales Miners' Contribution to the Tunnelling Companies on the Western Front during the Great War'.
Organised by the Historical Association.
