TalkArchaeology Lunchtime Talk - 'Identities in Viking Age North Wales: New research from Llanbedrgoch'

National Museum Cardiff
23 October 2013 , 1.05pm

Dr Mark Redknap, National Museum Wales

Identity in early medieval Wales can be explored at many different levels – from names, filiation and language on inscriptions, evidence preserved in written sources, to observations on how people chose to bury relatives (customs), how they dressed and adorned themselves (conforming to local traditions and conventions), and scientific analysis of human remains, origins and relationships. This talk explores expressions of identity in north Wales during the Viking Age and the fluidity of movements of goods and people around the Irish Sea, through the new data from the excavations at Llanbedrgoch on Anglesey.
